Ann V. Sayer, age 106 passed away in her sleep on August 7, 2014 shortly after dinner. Ann was a resident of Pelham for over 100 years. She moved to St. Johnland Rehabilitation Center near her only son Scott Sayer and his wife just six months ago.
For much of her adult life Ann was an active member of the Pelham Senior Association. (Ann's father founded the Pelham Civic Association). At age 101 Ann could still be found shopping around town and driving to "the seniors', where she played bridge twice/week. Ann was an avid bridge player, seamstress, and an accomplished artist. She was an enthusiastic reader, devoted to history and travel books. Until age 102 Ann still managed her house and gardens, hung laundry out to dry and did all her own "Italian Style" cooking.
Over her 106 years Ann lived her life quietly and with dignity. Many of those years were spent in service to others, but Ann never sought recognition for good deeds left unsung. Ann "plodded on" as she would say, doing her best to live independently, trying her best to "do the right thing when nobody's looking".
Ann lived her life without expectations. She had some regrets, but placated herself with simple words to live by: "Life can be a bitter pill, so add a little sugar when you can" and "This too shall pass".
Her secrets to good health- "Every day, use the four: garlic, fresh lemon, extra virgin olive oil and Italian style parsley", and a glass of red wine from time to time.
Ann V. Sayer was loved by everyone who got close to her. She was well-liked by all. Her longevity is testament to a life well-lived. She is remembered with warmth, smiles and admiration.
