Andreas Mommsen of Stratford, CT passed away on Monday, March 15th, he was 86 years old. Andreas was born in Wyk auf Fohr, Germany to Andreas and Christine Mommsen. The youngest of 10 children, he graduated high school, then worked in City Hall in Wyk before coming
to America at the age of 22.
As a young man, Andreas worked several jobs after arriving in the United States, but his job working at a deli was the one that inspired him the most. After serving in the US Army he returned to Germany to marry his first wife, Ingeborg, whom he met before leaving for America. The two were married until her death in 1986. During that time Andreas bought Andy's Delicatessen on the corner of Lincoln Ave & 5th Ave. in Pelham, which he owned and operated from 1956 to 1981.
Andreas will be greatly missed by his wife Aimee Marie, his son Paul and Paul's wife Susan, his daughter Eileen and her husband Joseph Wilkinson. He will be missed by his four loving grandchildren: Alyssa Mommsen, Brooke Mommsen, Christopher Wilkinson (and his wife Michelle) and Elise Wilkinson.
A Celebration of Andreas' life will be held at the Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, March 20th. A funeral service will be held at The Village Lutheran Church located at 172 White Plains Road, Bronxville, NY at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 21st. Interment will follow at Beechwoods Cemetery, New Rochelle, NY.
