Alex A. Materasso, formally of the Bronx and later of Glen Oaks, NY passed away on July 6th, 2017. He was 89 years old.
Alex was one of 10 children born in the Bronx to Louis and Anna (Doria) Materasso in 1927. He graduated from Evander Childs High School and enlisted in the Navy during WWII where he proudly served his country.
After returning home from the war, Alex met his wife Mary Porcelli, and they were married in 1954 at Immaculate Conception Church in the Bronx. Alex and Mary spent five wonderful years together before Mary departed from this life in 1959.
In-between taking care of his son Alex Jr., and working Alex loved to bowl, golf, pitch softball and play piano. He later met his second wife of 45 years Thelma "Penny" Salguero. His second son, Paul was born in 1969. Penny passed away in 2015.
Alex will be remembered as a generous, caring and suave man who loved his family. He will be missed by his sons Alex (Jacqueline) and Paul (Asako); his loving grandchildren Jessica, Alex, Michelle, Amanda, Michael, Nicholas and Marina; his 4 great grandchildren Eugene, Joseph, John and Luke, and his brother-in-law Carmine and his sister-in-law Caroline. Alex is predeceased by his wives, Mary and Penny and all of his brothers and sisters.
A celebration of Alex's life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, NY, on Friday, July 21st from 4pm to 8pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Catharine's Church, 25 Second Avenue, Pelham, NY on Saturday, July 22nd at 10am. Internment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
