Adrian J. Poinsette

Adrian James Poinsette (Point) of Yonkers, New York, passed away on January 18, 2022. He was 70 years old. Born in New Rochelle to Wilfred Sr. and Kora Poinsette, Adrian was the youngest of four children. He lived in New Rochelle until the age of 7 and then moved to North Pelham, where he graduated from Pelham Memorial High School in 1970. He attended Westchester Community College and SUNY Stony Brook.

In 1976, Adrian met the love of his life, Shirley Green, who he would later marry. The two remained married for 34 glorious years. Adrian worked for Liberty Lines as a bus driver for 36 years before retiring in 2011. He was a dedicated, hard-working employee. Adrian lived life to the fullest. He epitomized the proverb “don’t let the grass grow under your feet”. He was constantly on the go.

He enjoyed fishing in Cape Cod with childhood friends, traveled the world to ski – from Japan to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and cruised the Caribbean with his beloved wife annually. He never missed a family gathering. A truly patient person, who enjoyed vacationing with his grandchildren and teaching them to ski and fish. Adrian was wonderful cook and will be remembered for his ribs, crab cakes, and spicy dishes.

Adrian is survived by his wife Shirley, his son Kyle (Mitchelle) Poinsette (South Orange, NJ), his grandchildren; Tarrell (Sashonna) Rankin (Harrison, NJ), Zacharie and Harmonie. He is also survived by his brother Gerald (Mount Vernon, NY) and his sister Rene (Hyattsville, MD); niece Krystal (Kevin) Howell (Pelham, NY); grandnephew Kristian and grandniece Kaitlyn; goddaughter Keri (Oxon Hill, MD). Adrian will be missed by his extended family, his many friends and everyone who knew him. He is predeceased by his parents, Wilfred Sr. and Kora Poinsette, brother Wilfred Jr. and sister-in-law Betty.

A celebration of Adrian’s life will take place on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, New York. Interment will be private.
