ADELYN M. JANULIS Adelyn M. Janulis, 96, passed away peacefully after two weeks of illness on Jan 9, 2025 in White Plains, NY. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Marie Mazzotti of Miami, FL. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Peter T. Janulis, and two brothers, Frank Mazzotti, Jr. and Roland Mazzotti. Adelyn Janulis earned a three-year certificate in Advertising Design from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY, where she won a lettering award due to her unusual precision and artistry, and completed her undergraduate BA/BFA degree at Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY.

Married in 1952, Mrs. Janulis lived and worked in Manhattan as a commercial artist for several years, then raised her family in Pelham Manor, New York. A born traveler, she especially enjoyed Key West, FL, and toured such locations as Israel and Egypt, Australia, and Italy through the Manor Club of Pelham. She loved opera, particularly the singing of Luciano Pavarotti, and was a longtime member of the Metropolitan Opera and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her favorite book was Anna Karenina, which she enjoyed quoting, and she faithfully supported various charitable organizations. After moving to Delray Beach, FL in 1993, she and her then-retired husband kept a small apartment in New Rochelle, NY as a base point for summer visits to family. In 2011, a year after his passing, an unexpected health mishap led to a return north to the pastoral campus of The Osborn in Rye, NY, where she spent her remaining years.

Winner of two beauty contests while young, Adelyn Janulis was a stunning woman of exquisite aesthetic tastes. She was proud of her Italian heritage, including the Mazzotti family crest and motto: “Be honest, be dignified, be kind.” She valued education highly, possessed a strong moral compass, and especially loved engaging with and supporting her children and grandchildren on their life journeys. Her family will miss her deeply, but she will continue on in our hearts, minds and love for each other. She was beloved wife to Dr. Peter T. Janulis for 58 years; cherished father to Lori, Karen and Ted; loving grandmother to Jennifer, Julian, Matthew, Elizabeth, Catherine, Peter, Helena, and Christina; and great-grandmother to Gabriella, Alexia, Christopher, Madelyn, Aurora, Lydia, Dmitri, Aerith, and Alexandra, as well as soon-to-be-born Theo.

A memorial service will be held at the Pelham Funeral Home on Jan. 18, with interment afterward at Beechwoods Cemetery in New Rochelle, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Metropolitan Opera or the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
